Accessibility

Here at OneFile, we’re committed to giving people the tools they need to shape their own future. So, we do everything we can to make sure our websites and software are accessible to the widest possible audience, regardless of technology or ability. We’ve partnered with AbilityNet who are helping us with the accessibility of our Eportfolio and Learning Hub products.

You can take a look at what else we’re doing on each of our products and websites on the links below:

Accessibility work is never done, but we’re taking it on and doing everything we can. We're aware that some areas of our products and website aren’t fully accessible and we’re fixing known issues as fast as we can. We’re working toward “Level AA” conformance of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, to comply with the National Disability Authority’s Code of Practice on Accessibility of Public Services and Information Provided by Public Bodies.

Whenever we make progress or changes, we’ll update this page.

Improving your access

Everyone’s needs are different. There are some handy guides on AbilityNet and the BBC that’ll help you get a set up that suits you and your accessibility needs. There are tips on everything from seeing the screen properly, using the keyboard and mouse, hearing sounds clearly, and reading content.

Recommended accessibility software

We recommend using the open-source software NVDA, as this is what we use to test our products. If you encounter issues while using other providers, please let us know.

What we can’t improve

OneFile can’t monitor all content uploaded by users. It's the responsibility of each centre to ensure any content uploaded considers the accessibility needs of users within that centre. This includes provision of alternatives for time-based media, including closed captions for video content.

What we’re working on

From the AbilityNet audit and subsequent rechecks of the site, the pages tested are partially compliant with both the level A and AA guidelines as specified in WCAG 2.1.

There are elements that do not reflow properly when zoomed to 400%, such as the “Rating” and “Hint” input fields, and the "Actions" button.
